Abstract

The thesis entitled “An analytical study of the Buddhist ethics in Thai traditional medicine” has three objectives: 1. to study the history and the ethics of Thai traditional medicine, 2. to study the Buddhist ethics and the medical way of thought, 3. to analyze the Buddhist ethics  in Thai traditional medicine. This thesis is the qualitative research. From the study, it is found that.

A)             The history and the Thai traditional ethics was basically derived from human philosophy of medicine in taking care of the body from illness through their own  experiences, and it also barters the experience from other people along with  human beings’ ethics, this  can be found in the principle of Buddhist’s teachings in the early period of Rattanakosintara dynasty.

B)              The Buddhist ethics is the principle for the good life. It is the way leading to harmony and happiness in society. The Thai traditional medical practitioner should get himself guided by “Sila” (precepts) while dealing with patients.

The good way of life in Thai traditional medicine involved the principle Dharma in the Buddhist or it can be said that it is “the Buddhist ethics in Thai traditional medicine”.
