Abstract

This thematic paper entitled “A Study of Business Ethics of Administrators to Employees in Buddhist Perspective” had two objectives – (1) to study ethics and Buddhist principles involved with business and (2) to study and analyze business ethics of administrators to employees in Buddhist perspective by analyzing data from documents and related research papers.

Regarding the ethics and the Buddhist principles involved with business it was found that business and society rely on each other. The ethical operation of administrators implies behaving which is right and chaste, acceptable by people in society and beneficial to public. The administrators need to be ethical both in mind and action for being a good model in organization. Besides they are ethical to their employees in employment, working environment and workplace rights in order to make righteous and appropriately balanced benefits of administrators and employees. Regarding Buddhist principles involved with business the research findings indicate that administrators should train themselves and get ready to administrate before governing employees to work efficiently.  Their own obligations start with right and fair thoughts for planning. When organization’s layout is achieved, then they treat employees in every management with good speech and action, and evaluate the works at the end. In order to build good  relationship and harmony in the organization, administrators need to practice Hetthima-disa in Disa 6 and Sangahavatthu 4.

Regarding the business ethics of administrators to employees in Buddhist perspective, the research findings reveal that the business ethics of administrators is of prime importance because they have to govern themselves to uphold right behavior so as to be ideal exemplary role models themselves before they govern or manage the employees efficiently. Administrators should start with planning based on good thoughts to define goal of just profit and innocuous management direction. While managing, administrators should have good relationship with employees. Finally, they evaluate results whether they are according to the defined goal or not. However, regardless of the outcome administrators must understand what things really are and preserve mindfulness to protect ethics violations in management. Besides they should view and treat employees as the most precious resource in the organization who have equal human dignity, potential to development, rights and duties. Hence they should not affront and use employees as means to their benefit; rather they should give the opportunities to employees for training in developing ability and respect in employees’ rights. These will result in accruing benefits to administrators, employees, organization and society.
