The objectives of this thesis were to study historical background of Jareangbroen Folk Song in SurinProvince, morale appeared in Jareangbroen Folk Song, role and influence of Jareangbroen Folk Song to local community in Surin Province

The result of the study was found that Jareangbroen Folk Song was developed from the play of “KanTob Kai” which was sung in dialog, consisting of Kuopio musical composition. Then “Kaen” which was Thai traditional mouth organ was added in musical composition. This type of folk song was called “ChariangBrun”. There were many elements in ChariangBrun; consisting of one man and one woman, the musical instruments of Thai traditional mouth organ which mostly played in bumble bee style, being able to show at any suitable places, and dressing in ancient folk tune.  Then it allowed woman to put skirts and man to pants. The Basic dances postures were walking dance, backward dance, side dance, flirting dance, fingers dance, and leg kicking dance. Its play began from teachers’ worshiping, introduction to teacher and the players, and informing importance of the fair and the host. Then the play went on by dialog, story, blessing, and farewell.

Morale appeared in Jareangbroen Folk Song was consisted of two aspects i.e. principles of Buddhist teaching and typical culture. The morale of Buddhist teaching concerned with good politics and governance i.e. the ten virtues or duties of ruler (Rajadhamma). The typical culture concerned with various ceremonies derived from Buddhist teachings such as ceremonies of ordination, hair shaving, and funeral, etc.

Role and influence of Jareangbroen Folk Song to local community in Surin province was found that it helped to cultivate morale of Buddhist teachings to community, to preserve and promote local arts and cultures particularly Khmer language, and to relay and publicize all information to community. Therefore, Jareangbroen Folk Song is the significant local arts and is valuable to learn and preserve to the next generation.
