Abstract

Abstract

This research of a model of the desirable regime in principles of the Buddha-Dhamma are of three objectives, namely:- 1) to analyze the fundamental concepts of Political Science regime, 2) to analyze the political concepts in Theravāda Buddhism, and 3) to propose a model of the desirable regime in principles of the Buddha-Dhamma.

This research is a qualitative one by using the descriptive method and is of the characteristic of applied Buddha-Dhamma.

From the research, it is found that the forms Political Science regime are complicated and depend on components to be their foundations. To maintain the forms of the regime is the political governmental processes in agreement with the objectives of the regime. This research shows that the doctrinal principle called Dhamma is more important than the forms of the regime in Theravāda Buddhism because Dhamma is accepted by governors. Furthermore, the concept of authority, the concept of liberty, the concept of equality, and the Rule of Law are in compliance with the Buddhist Teachings. Lastly, the model of the desirable regime in the principles of the Buddha-Dhamma is “Dhammic Democracy”, which results from integrating principles of democracy with the principles of the Buddha-Dhamma by using the significant principles, namely, authority, moral liberty, equality, and the Rule of Law. This model consists of the governor’s quality, the relationship of duty between the governor and the followers, Dhamma as the political government’s structure, and the two objectives, both at the mundane level (Lokiyadhamma) and at the supramundane level (Lokuttaradhamma), which will proceed to Dhamma, by Dhamma, and for Dhamma.
