Abstract

Abstract

This thesis has three objectives; to study Mahārahulovāda sutta, to study the meditation practice for enlightenmenet, and to study of the meditation practice for enlightenment as taught in Mahārahulovāda sutta. Clarified data are taken from the Theravada Buddhist scriptures and other related documents, then composed, summarized, analyzed, explained in details, corrected and verified by Buddhist scholars. From the study it found that;

Mahārahulovāda sutta is the sutta that the Lord Buddha taught Samanera Rahula in the Five Upadanakhan which are Rupā (matters), Vedanā (feeling),Sañña (perception), Sankhara (mental formations), and Viññāna (consciousness) in the past, the future, the present , inside, outside, rough, details, bad, neat, far,near, all are not belongs to us, we are not those, those are not ourselves. To abandon the clinging (Upadanakhan) in the five elements by considering the Aggregates as the element, release the clinging in the matters either inside or outside. Then seeing the truth by the right wisdom that those are not us, we are not those, those are not ourselves. This is the temperament of Vipassana to generate the Vipassana Ñana.The Lord Buddha also taught Samanera Rahula to do six Bhāvanās which are Mettabhāvanā, garunabhāvanā, mutitabhāvanā, upekkhabhāvanā, asubhasaññabhāvanā, and aniccasaññabhāvanā, then practice sixteen steps of Ānāpānasati.

The Insight Meditation Practice to purify the mind for generate panna to consider until realize the condition of matters and mind according to the three common characteristics which is impermanence, suffering and non-self, till overcome all defilements that cause suffering and attain Magga Phala from Phra Sotapanna Phra Sagadagami Phra Anagami Phra Arahanta. The attainment of dhamma which grown up steps by steps of the elimination of defilements till reaching the Magga Phala Nibbāna finally end of suffering..

The meditation practice for enlightenment as taught in Mahārahulovāda sutta  is the practice of Natdhabhāvanā which is the practice of samatha and vipassana going together. By consideration in all elements not to be happy or unhappy with phassa in order to leave upadana in rupākhan and the Lord Buddha also taught to abandon egoity (Ahaṃkara) the selfish attachment (Mamamkara) and Mananusaya by Dhamma Bhavana, which are Metta to abandon Byapada (ill-will), Karuna (compassion) to leave Vihimsa (cruel), Mudita (sympathetic joy) to leave Arati, Upekkha abndon Patigha (anger), Asubha (ugly) to leave Raga, Aniccasanna to abndon Asamimana,and Ānāpānasati practice, the Buddha taught Novice Rahula in order to attain the Magga Phala.
