Abstract

 

          This thesis is of 3 objectives, i.e. 1) to study conceptual idea of conflict management according to principles of Sārānīyadhamma in Buddhism; 2) to study conflict problems and crisis in Khaokheow Open-Zoo Community, Chonburi province; and 3) to apply Sārāṇīyadhamma for managing conflict in Khaokheow Open-Zoo Community, Chonburi province. The research is qualitative under the tools of         an in-depth interview, observation and joining activities by the researcher himself.

 

          From the research, it is found that a conflict is a stressful or not getting along state caused by information, benefits, relationship, structure and social value; but in Buddhist perspective, the causes of a conflict originate from Taṇhā, Māna and Diṭṭhi.  The way to solve the conflict according to the present practicing academic principles is to compromise to each other for unity that yields cooperation and agreement which is in line of Sārānīyadhamma of Mettā-Kāyakamma,                Mettā-Vacīkamma, Mettā-Manokamma, Sādhāranabhogī, Sīlasāmaññata, and Diṭṭhisāmañ-ñata.  

 

 

 

 

          It is found that the main conflict problems in Khaokheow Open-Zoo Community has been the matter of the landmark in the national preserved area and the policy from governmental sector leading to the lack of equal basic public-utility causing conflicts of benefits, information, including the fear towards the governmental sector.

 

 

 

 

            From the result of the application of Sārānīyadhamma for conflict management in the community, it is found that the people in the community agree that it is necessary for every sector to cooperate sharing the practical way of not hurting one another, communicating for more information, listening to demands, giving chances to the public sector, assisting and sharing, providing welfare, being kind and complying according to humanity; and every sector of the community mutually agrees to its rules.   It is certain that if this way of practice is followed in accordance with Sārāṇīyadhamma, the channel of peace will arise to the society.
