Abstract

           The objectives of the research were (1) to study the birth and development of the amulets (2) to study the influence of amulets in Thai society (3) to study the amulets as the symbolic media instead of the triple gem.

           The research was a qualitative research on which the information was derived from the documentary research,

           The findings were as followed:

           The amulets have been made and gradually developed since the ancient India so as to reminisce the lord Buddha. Depending on the reasons being the belief of Buddhists the amulets became the holy thing, they were made of natural materials or various kinds of metals, their appearance was the Buddha image or the image of the important disciples of the lord Buddha.

 

            Thai people have made the amulets for worshiping with incense sticks and candles and the puttha jubilee was made to be magical being believed that the amulets would be great power for protection, inspiration of happiness, having them find all good things, and making them a lot of influences in liberal art, architecture and Buddhist art being effective to culture, tradition from the age of Tavaravadee to the present day.

              The amulets are the representative of the triple gem to make people reminisce the goodness and the Buddha’s teachings which are the foundation of arts and culture. The Buddha images’ appearance is respectable, when paying respect people feel happy, apart from this the Buddha images could call the faith and supporting from people and promotes Buddhist activities, in addition the virtue derived from the Buddha image making is donation as required from people and Buddhism will be developed, believable and sustainable.
