An Analytical Study of Belief on Gods (Phraphumi) of Thai Buddhists in Khlong Hae Sub-District, Hatyai District, Songkhla Province

Abstract

The main theme of the thesis is to study the beliefs about Phraphumi on Buddhism in Khlong hae sub-district, Hatyai district, Songkhla province, Thailand.  1) to study the beliefs of Thai Buddhists toward the teachings of Buddhism,                  2) to study the beliefs about Phraphumi of Thai Buddhists in Khlong Hae sub-district, Hatyai district, Songkhla province, and 3) to study the Phraphumi of Thai Buddhist in Khlong Hae, Hatyai, Songkhla.

This research is a qualitative research, highlighting the study of documents, exploring the elemental information from the Tripitaka, exploring the information from the academic texts, relevant research papers and from the interview.

The research found that Thai Buddhists in Khlong Hae sub-district, Hatyai district, Songkhla province belief that the Phraphumi is the deity in which they live in such as land, sky and shrines. And believe that Phraphumi leads people towards the progress of benefits. Buddhism believes that Phraphumi who is classified in the class of angels in the paradise, which is a landscape ideal in the erotic level as well as the human world. As a reminder angel is a spiritual memory that they have known and considered the virtue of the person as the angel as it is on their own. Humans should try to follow the example of angels or Phraphumi, who have been successful in their lives by keeping their minds clean, calm, and clear. But being an angel is not enough, though in their life is a happiness or sadness because it is not acceptable. If the Nirvana is attained then it is complete and free from suffering. The Buddha taught his followers to be self-reliant and not seek external dependence because all human beings have their own potential having the power to free themselves from all suffering by virtue of their own perseverance and wisdom.

The belief in the present society of Thai Buddhists in Khlong Hae sub-district, Hatyai district, Songkhla province is also highly influential. Thai Buddhists in Khlong Hae sub-district, Hatyai district, Songkhla province still have such beliefs in ancestors since ancient times. Sangha teaches the doctrines of Buddhism, such as the Law of Karma and the cycle of death and makes them understand how to live properly will help Thai Buddhists people to live peacefully with wisdom over faith.

Conclusion there is two types of beliefs in Buddhism as they are mentioned below

1) The belief that no artificial intelligence. It is a faith that is ignorant cannot be overcome.

 

2) Intelligent beliefs can be made out of suffering which are the purpose of Buddhism.
