Abstract

Objectives of this research were to: 1. study the use of online media for Buddhist propagation of monks at  Non Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, 2. compare the opinions of monks towards Guideline for using online media use for Buddhist propagation of monks at Non Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province Classified by personal factors and and 3. study problems, obstacles and recomendations for Guideline for using  online media use for Buddhist propagation of monks at Non Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.

                 Methodology was the mixed methods: The quantitative research collected data with questionnaires from 156 samples derived from 257 Buddhist monks at Non-Thai District. The statistics used to analyze data were frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, t-test, and F-test and one-way analysis of variance, ANOVA and qualitative research collected data from 8 key informants by face-to-face in-depth interviewing and analyzed data by descriptive interpretation.

                 Findings were as follows:

                 1. Monks’ opinions towards Guideline for using  online media for Buddhism propagation of monks at Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province by overall were at high level (=3.75, S.D.=0.604) and each aspects were also at high levels as;  receivers were at (=3.88, S.D =0.696), messages were at (=3.80, S.D.=0.703), senders were at (=3.65, S.D.=0.696)  and channels were at  (=3.61, S.D.=0.631) respectively.

                 2. The comparison of the monks’ opinions towards Guideline for using online media for the propagation of Buddhism by monks at Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, classified by personal data; age, education, Dhamma and Pali educational level, formal education and internet usage per day revealed that monks with different age. Dhamma and Pali educational background. formal educational background and internet usage per day had different opinions towards Guideline for using online media for propagating Buddhism of monks at Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province with statistical significance level of 0.05, accepting the set hypothesis. The monks with different positions did not have different opinions towards Guideline for using online media for propagating Buddhism of monks at Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, rejecting the set hypothesis.

                 3. Problems, obstacles and suggestions for guideline for using online media for the propagation of Buddhism by monks at Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, were found that 1) senders still lacking monks, missionaries who have knowledge and ability to perform tasks 2) messages, monks, missionaries use language and expressions that were difficult to understand, lacking of detailed explanations the receivers interpreted and understood with the distortion. 3) communication channels, Monks still lack skills in using online media and 4) the receivers still lacking judgment in receiving information. Therefore, the Sangha Order needs to organize training to develop knowledge for monks for creative works, using language and expressions that are easy to understand, detailed and meaningful, not distorted. There must provide training to develop skills in using online media and receivers must consider it clearly before receiving the messages.

                 The findings from  in-depth interviews revealed that the senders must use appropriate language, pleasant to listen to easily, and encourage to practice. There should be a step-by-step event planning, selecting communication channels that are suitable for the target audience or receivers, correct, and meet the purpose of communication.  There should be  a team set up to work and follow up the performance evaluation to find advantages and disadvantages and to analyze, improve and develop for the betterment for successful development  the use of online media for propagating Buddhism, Non-Thai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province.
