THE STUDYING OF NEEDS ASSESSMENT IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES LEARNING OF STUDENTS IN THE SECONDARY EDUCATIONAL SERVICE AREA OFFICE 3 PRANAKORN SRI AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE (Buddhism Educational Administration)

Abstract

The objectives of this research were; 1) to study the state of foreign language learning of secondary school students, 2) to study the need in foreign language learning of secondary school students, and 3) to give suggestions in the need in foreign language learning of secondary school students under Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Secondary Educational Service Area Office. The mixed research methods were used in the study. The quantitative data were collected by questionnaires from 132 samples and analyzed by mean and standard deviation. The qualitative data were collected by in-depth interviews with 5 school administrators and analyzed by content analysis.

The results of the study found that:

1. The state of foreign language learning of secondary school students under Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Secondary Educational Service Area Office 3 was at a moderate level totally.

2. The need in foreign language learning of secondary school students under Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Secondary Educational Service Area Office 3 was at a high level overall. The highest level was on Listening skills, followed by Speaking skills, and Reading skills respectively.

3. Suggestions in the need in foreign language learning of secondary school students under Phranakhon Si Ayutthaya Secondary Educational Service Area Office 3 were that; since students in different areas, study levels, and ages had different needs and interests, students survey should be conducted prior to course design and lesson plan making. Suitable activities and teaching and learning process could really motivate and improve language skills relevant to students’ contexts and needs.
