Abstract

The objectives of this research were as follows; 1) to study efficiency in teaching Buddhism of teacher-monks in primary schools in Mueang district of Samutprakarn province, and 2) to develop teaching Buddhism in teacher-monks in primary schools in Mueang district of Samutprakarn province. The mixed research methodology was used in the study. The data were collected from students by questionnaires and from school administrators by in-depth interviews. The data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.

The results of the study found that:

1. The students’ opinion towards efficiency in teaching Buddhism of teacher-monks in primary schools in Mueang district of Samutprakarn province was at a high level overall. The highest level was on evaluation, followed by teaching method, learning atmosphere, and teaching media respectively.

2. The guideline in development of teaching Buddhism was as follows;

2.1 The evaluation should be set in standard criteria in every level.

2.2 The teaching method should cover techniques, process, and innovations in teaching and learning.

2.3 The classroom learning atmosphere should be clean, tidy, quiet, convenient, and pleasurable for learning Buddhism.

2.4 The teaching media should be varied, up-to-date, suitable to students in each level, and students should have a chance to use the media.
