A Model of Desirable Attribute Development of Teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University (Buddhist Educational Administration)

Abstract

The objectives of this research were; 1) to study state of desirable attribute of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, 2) to develop a model of desirable attribute development of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, and 3) to propose the model of desirable attribute development of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University. The mixed research methodology was used in the study. The quantitative data were collected by questionnaires from 165 samples and analyzed by mean and standard deviation. The qualitative data were collected by in-depth interviews with 7 experts for composing a model and by focus group discussions with 9 experts for examining the appropriateness of the model. The data were analyzed by content analysis.

The results of the study revealed that;

1. The state of desirable attribute of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University was at a high level in total and in details on moral and virtue, teaching ability, personality, and student consulting.

2. A model of desirable attribute of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University consisted of; 1) Desirable attributes, i.e. teaching ability, moral and virtue, and student consulting, 2) Teacher professional standards, i.e. values and teacher characteristics, knowledge and teaching techniques, duty performance, and relationship with students’ parents and community, and 3) Development process, i.e. (1) Development consisting of teaching ability development through curriculum structure and training, personality development through training, and moral and virtue project under announcement, notice or regulations, and student consulting development through curriculum structure or process development project, (2) The desirable attributes of teachers consisted of teaching ability and characteristics of the 21st century teacher or E-teacher having good personality, ethic and morality, ability in consulting, and ability to be a teacher and a learner, and (3) The Dhamma principles used in the development of desirable attribute of teachers consist of the Buddha’s teaching methods for teaching ability, good companion for personality, the Eightfold Path for moral and virtue, and the Four Noble Truths for student consulting.

3. The appropriateness and actual application of the model of desirable attribute development of teachers in Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University were examined and approved by the experts.
