Abstract

This thesis entitled "An Analysis on Awareness of one’s monkhood in using online social medias based on Buddhist Ethics" is of three objectives: 1) to study the sense of being a monk in Buddhist ethics 2) to study the situations of monks in using online social medias in the present 3) to analyze the sense of being a monk in using the online social medias based on the Buddhist ethics. The results were found that:

The Pali word “Samaņasaññã” means the sense of being a monk; the recognition and identification of oneself as a monk. It is entirely aware of monkhood, the mindfulness and recovering that Iam a monk.

The situations of monks in using online social medias in the present can be divided into 3 purposes: 1) the usage only for entertainment and enjoyment
2) the usage for religious communication and religious announcements 3) he necessity in using it for education. Therefore, in the present day, Society should not prohibit monks to use online social medias. It will, thereby, block the access and the use of the current necessary information.

To analyze the sense of being a monk in using the social Medias based on the Buddhist ethics is that: the monks should use the technology appropriately. They should not break the Buddhist disciplines. On usage of social medias in sending the information, searching for knowledge, the propagation of Buddhism or the Dharma Public relation activities, the important thing to keep in mind is that the monks should use social medias only for the most benefits of the others. The online media will be counted as a good or a bad, it depend upon the particular user, such as, if it is used for chat, courtship or surfing porn websites, that is not appropriate. That media is a penalty and will bring about discredit to the user and the religious institutions. If monks, on the contrary, carefully use social media following on the discipline that is suitable for the monk’s status. That media is a good value and provides the benefit to the global society.
