The Motivation with Four Iddhipadas of Monks and Novices on Learning Pali in Phrapariyattidhamma Schools, Nakhon sawan Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research were : 1) to study the motivation with the iddhipadas 4 (the four paths of accomplishment) of the monks and novices on Pali learning at Phrapariyattidhamma schools in Nakhon Sawan Province, 2) to compare the opinions towards the motivation with the Iddhapdas 4 of the monks and novices on Pali learning at Phraparityttidhamma schools  in Nakhon Sawan Province classified by ages, education levels for both in normal world and in Dhamma and 3) to present the ways to build the motivation with the iddhipadas 4 of the monks and novices on Pali learning at Phrapariyattidhamma schools in Nakhon Sawan Province.

This research applied by descriptive research through the study of quantitative research. Data collecting from the sampling group of 289 monks and novices. The analysis of data used the statistics as frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation to explain the differences of characteristics of the sampling group, F-test to test in case there were more than two groups of variables and Least Significant Difference (LSD) in case finding the differences in pairs. For the qualitative research, 8 experts were interviewed through content analysis, concluded and presented by descriptive research.

The results of this research revealed as the following:

1. The motivation with the Iddhipdas 4 of the monks and novices on Pali learning at Phrapariyattidhamma schools in Nakhon Sawan Province it appeared in 8 items such as 1) using enthusiasm and exciting, 2) setting the high goal, 3) buiding the alternatives, 4) building the responsibilities, 5) emphasizing on positive strength,
6) focusing on learning with cooperation, 7) focusing on encouragement and 8) regulations and rules to be hold on which in average were found at the highest levels. When considered into each item, it showed that the item of emphasizing on positive strength was at the highest level of mean and the item of setting the high goal was at the lowest level of mean.

2. The results of comparing the opinions towards the motivation with the Iddhipadas 4 of the monks and novices of Pali learning at Phraparitattidhamma schools in Nakhon Sawan Province for all 8 items, it disclosed that the monks and novices who had different ages, education levels for both in normal world and in Dhamma, they also had some differences of motivation with the Iddhipadas 4 towards Pali learning at Phrapariyattidhamma schools significantly in statistic at .05 level, thus, it was according to the hypothesis which had mentioned.

3. The suggestions of the ways to build the motivation with the Iddhapadas 4 of the monks and novices on Pali learning at Phrapariyattidhamma schools in Nakhon Sawan Province, it was found that the ways to build the motivation for all 8 items were as the following : 1) the item on enthusiasm and exciting should find somenting to create or arouse to pass the examination of each range of sermon, 2) setting the high goal, it  was necessary to explain anyone who was learning Pali to realize that learning Pali needed to know what the objectives and goal were so that the learners had their own goals, 3) building the alternatives should receive some help and be supported to administrate the education for the monks, 4) building the responsibilities, it needed to arouse the learners to always be responsible, 5) emphasizing on positive strength, to focus on students’ environments such as classrooms, houses, dormitories. These places needed to be Subbaya to their studies: needed to be peaceful places, nothing to disturb their concentration, including to provide some encouragement for both mental and physical, 6) focusing on learning with cooperation should have some agreements or  regulations both inside and outside the classrooms with clearness, 7) focusing on encouragement : the administrators, teachers of such schools should promote the students and always give some encouragement to them and 8) regulations and rules to be hold on : all these including various schedules which were things to behave of the schools should be used with flexibility and suitability which were the same standard throughout the country so that the students could not compare till causing many kinds of results later.
