A Sangha’s Development of Morality and Ethics to Youths in Bang saphan noi District, Prachuapkhirikhan Province

Abstract

This research paper entitled ‘A Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province’ has three objectives: 1) to study a Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province according to Youths’ s opinions, 2) to compare opinions on Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province based on individual factors, and 3) to study problems and obstacles including suggestions to Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province. in this research, 348 youths in Bangsaphan were population. it employed a mixed methods research in collecting data. The statistics, frequency, percentage, average and standard deviation (L.S. D), and t-test including One way ANOVA were used in the analysis.

 

The research findings were found as follows:

 

1. A Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province was at the most level in overall where its averages were of 3.98, when considered in each domain, its averages were at the most level in all, when considered from the most level to the lowest level, it showed that in wisdom its average was of 4.04, in concentration it was at 3.98, and in precepts it was of 3.92 respectively.

2. In the comparison, it showed that one the one hand, the levels of youths’ opinions, who were in different gender, on a Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi District, Prachuapkhirikhan province, were of less opinions on a Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province, on the other hand, youths who were of individual status on gender, ages, worldly educational qualification and supramundane educational qualification had no different opinions on a Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province; this was against the setting up hypotheses, it showed that the individual status on gender leads to no different opinions.

3. In the problems, obstacles and suggestions on a Sangha’s development of morality and ethics to youths in Bangsaphannoi district, Prachuapkhirikhan province, this research showed that the problems and obstacles were of: 1) in the precepts, youths were not given the proper instruction; they lack the knowledge on morality due to personal inexperience, 2) in the concentration, youths were hardly and continually supported to practice meditation  where they lack certain understanding of the principle of concentration and practice resulting in not getting the required skills and patience owing to insufficient Buddhist monks who can teach them in the school, 3) in the wisdom, those Buddhist monks who came to instruct youths were of a few numbers where their cooperation with others resulting in not supporting the development intellect in both school and community wherein their parents lack the positive cooperation leading to misunderstanding the management of learning in accordance with the principle of wisdom respectively.

In this research, suggestions were made as follows: 1) in the precepts, youths should be given the proper instruction on their talk and expression of opinions concerning the observation of precepts where they should be developed in all ages according to the process of learning which gives rise to the cultivation of social culture and training of staff whereby practice is prioritized, 2) in the concentration, there should support youths to practice meditation in daily life; youths should be given the proper understanding of concentration and its practices in higher level where their mind can be properly concentrated, and 3) in the wisdom, Buddhist monks who are of wisdom should be timely invited to instruct youths where in the basic activities should be provided on the training of students in solving various problems in their daily life.
