Amulets Management for Buddhism Propagation of Thai Monks

Abstract

The objectives of this research were  to : 1) study concepts thrones and history of the Amulets management for Buddhism Propagation of Thai Monks, 2) study the role of amulets management for Buddhism propagation of Thai monks,and 3) to find the model of amulets management for Buddhism propagation of Thai monks

This is a qualitative research based on a sample of Thai Buddhist monks and field study was by in-depth interview. There are 18 key informants were the Sangha administrators and the monks who have the major role about amulets management within the temple.

 

The findings of the research  were as follows:

1. The management of amulets for the propagation of Buddhist monks in Thailand found that the history of the amulet was born after the Buddha extinction after those who respect the Buddha wanted to remember the memory of the Prophet thus created a symbol. When Buddhism was propagated in Thailand, it had an amulet for good policy of  Buddhism propagation into 6 aspects such as  Phrapathom style, Malaysia  Cave style , Khom  Khmer Sukhothai Ayutthaya style amulets and were divided into various periods as follows: Dvaravati period, Haripunchai period , the era of Srivichai period, the era of the Sukhothai era. Ayutthaya period the age of the Rattanakosin era or today, each amulet in each era had the good policy for the different method for Buddhism propagation.

2. The roles of amulets management for Buddhism propagation of Thai monks at the present. If  study the analysis of the amulet is a way to find the process that the teacher used to teach Dharma practice because the amulet is a propaganda in the Buddhists who have the opportunity to go to the temple and the mind will be happy to cheer when the mind is joyful, then recognize the Buddha's mind, but some of you will remember using "Buddho, Bud” or “Samma Arahang”  “Itisukhato”  for the sake of  Nirvana.

3. The model of amulets management for Buddhism propagation of Thai monks. To know that the management of amulets for the propagation of Buddhist monks in Thailand is divided into four aspects: 1) Personnel must select qualified personnel who have the knowledge of Buddhism, have ability to explain to the recipients of the amulet access to Buddhism principle, have the morality must have clearly duty in each position , no inference , have cooperation with community and at last to have examination and evaluation. 2) The budget is accounting for income, expenditure, the system of collecting income and expenses clearly and when checking the income account is always to prevent the gossip and should explain the income every month. Management of revenue to have the benefit for propagation of Buddhism. They should have the distribution of the receipts to the various aspects of the activities of  six aspects, but the suitability of each temple is different and have the meeting  for the plan regularly. 3) For the material management , amulets as the tool to teach the principle of Buddhism. To give the amulet as souvenir  on activities or merit making and important Buddhist days or tradition and festival to impress the interest the people who come to temple as the good policy and successful policy that get the popularity and attract the people who have the faith in Buddhism but should teach the principle of Dhamma rationally for adjusting the faith and wisdom of amulets receivers.
