Abstract

A study of tradition and belief in holding Buddha image to submerge at Wat Traibhum Community, Mueang District, Phetchabun Province had the following purposes: studying the tradition and belief in holding Buddha image to submerge at Wat Traibhum community, Phetchabun province, studying the Buddhist belief in the tradition of holding Buddha image to submerge at Wat Traibhum community, Phetchabun province, and studying value of the tradition of holding Buddha image to submerge at Wat Traibhum community, Phetchabun province. This qualitative research was done through the descriptive analysis to find for the conclusion and suggestion, and interview on the target population to take its results into an analysis for the complete research.

            A result of the present study was found that the tradition and belief in holding Buddha image to submerge of Wat tribhum Community derived from the past to the present came from the faith. This tradition caused many religious rites that were derived from generation to generation.

            The result of the field research was found that most of the Buddhist target population in Phetchabun province believed Phrabuddhamahadhammaraja as the provincial Buddha image to hold the supernational power. People who worshiped it were safe with good luck. Rites in the tradition of holding Buddha image to submerge were worship, and boat race that brought about the entertainment, pleasure, and harmony for people in the Traibhum community and the Phetchabun province.  This tradition of Buddha holding image to submerge contributed a lot to the economical growth and tourism that many people from the Phetchabun province and other provinces participated in this tradition. This tradition had been done for many years until it became the provincial tradition and had to be practiced in fifteenth day of waxing moon. In the present time, there were a patter and a method different from the past time. There were many kinds of temptation such as gambling, drinking, and fermented liquor that caused the degeneration of moral value.
