Abstract

This thesis had the objectives as follows :– 1) to study the state of family problem at Ban Chumphae community and 2) to study the Buddhist method to remedy the family problems by the principles of six directions of Ban Chumphae community.

The result from the study found that the state of family problem of Ban Chumphae community had the greatest problem of poverty from the past to the present time. The poor families had more suffering due to economic changes. The cost of living was high so, the poor family had more debt problem. The debt caused family members stress and made quarrel and they could not solve the problem. So, they drank and the problem increased. On the other hand, the rich families had gambling problem, most members dined outside their home and indulged in night-life. This caused increase in divorce. The economically sufficient families had morality, hospitality and loved each other. These families also intended to engage in right livelihood and were warm and happy. When this global world had been developed into information time, it made people in the community imitate about improper behavior, for example, they did not pay respect to parents and elders and they did not do their duty along the Thai Buddhist ways. The children did not believe in their parents and were not humble to their senior relatives. There was the tendency of conflict and separation in the family due to lack of understanding and patience. People were also too indulgent and mutual acceptance was lacking. They had the wrong value and in want of thing which it was not in accordance with the Buddhist cultural basis.

Regarding the family problem solving aspect of Ban Chumphae community, most families brought the principles of six directions to apply in the daily life by fixing the five roles and duties of the family members i.e. plan, management, administration, direction and control. There were three aims for family members to attain three benefits i.e. the present benefit, the next world benefit and the supreme benefit.  The aims were to make a person in the family achieve happiness for himself/herself, for other family members and for the community and society as a whole. People had the reason in daily life for sustainable happiness in accordance with Buddhist principles.
