An Analytical Study of the Buddhism Propagation Works Activated by Phraratchaphromyan (Luang pho rusi lingdam) 2011

Abstract

The purposes of this thesis were in threefold: 1) to study the Buddhist methods of propagation; 2) to study the Buddhism propagation works activated by Phraratchaphromyan (Luang pho rusi lingdam); and 3) to make analysis on the Buddhism propagation works activated by Phraratchaphromyan (Luang pho rusi lingdam).

The qualitative approach was applied to this research study, focusing on documentary research. The primary data was collected from Tipitaka texts and their commentaries. The secondary data was gathered from related textbooks, documents and research works. The results of the study showed that:

1.       The Buddha was the prototype of personal encounter propagation from which the highest advantages were perceived, namely response feedback for the attendants, useful content from the Dhamma. Moreover, the Buddha exposed precisely the quality of propagator, as well as the propagation techniques and the language as the tool of communication.

2.       Phraratchaphromyan or Luang pho rusi lingdam was considered as a distinguished Buddhist venerable who had the hometown in Bang pla ma District, Suphanburi Province. Phraratchaphromyan studied the Buddhism from his family and then studied the meditation from Phrakruwihankitchanikan (Luang pho Parn Sunantho) and many meditation monks until Phraratchaphromyan had the knowledge enough to his demand. Then, Phraratchaphromyan began to propagate his knowledge from his experience and became worshipful to the people. Moreover, Phraratchaphromyan made the most benefit to the Buddhism for all five concrete and abstract concepts: the monastery management, the ecclesiastical education, the educational supporting, the construction in the monasteries and the public supporting.

Phraratchaphromyan propagation work presented it distinguished reputed. His Manomayiddhi meditation exercises including his personal personality by having clear speech, respectful voice, his impressive physical appearance and his humility caused faith and appreciation among lay people. His sermon teachings used simple words, focusing at Nibbana (Ultimate desire extinction). His teachings on heavens, hell and Arahatship interested people because they contained concrete image, personification and beautiful concrete infrastructure defined the identity of Chandaram Temple. At the same time, Luang Por had established Center for supporting the poor in remote areas to respond on His Majesty’s royal concept. Some other organizations were as well established namely Luang Por Parn-Maha Vera Thavaro Foundation, Rice Bank, Rice Mill, Dhamma books, Dhamma magazines, Dhamma media in forms of tape recording, CD and VCD. Concerning education, he initiated to have Phra Sudhammayanatheravidya School built, which has been run and proceeded the activities by his followers up to the present time, in spite of his passing away for more than 20 years.
